Dupevitza in December 2021

Readers of the blog have surely noticed that we repeat some of our hike destinations a lot - not that we've hiked everywhere, it's just we really like some trails and their accessibility. It is quite frustrating to drive for hours just for a short hike there and then back, so we definitely prefer it the other way round :) - average or long length hikes at nearby places

Lulin mountain is one of the mountains near Sofia and the trail from Bonsovi polyani to peak Dupevitza starts at the very outskirts of the city, so it is only a half an hour drive. The route we usually hike is along a round trail, passing through two scenic peaks of Lulin - Dupevitza and Dobrinina skala.

Today the weather was sunny with some clouds and fairly warm, just perfect for December hiking and we climbed peak Dupevitza in record time.

:The snow from earlier this week had almost completely melted, leaving the paths somewhat muddy, but not impossible to hike, as we had feared

Hike info:

Destination: round trail to peak Dupevitza
Mountain: Lulin
Total length: 10 km
Elevation gain: 320 m
Total duration (plus picnic and rests): 2 hours 40  min

Me-made items, worn on this hike:

:We had our picnic on a sunny meadow, with a gorgeous view to Vitosha across the hills (husband is taking a photo of a big spider in the grass, while I'm taking a picture of him)

:All Saints Chapel

:A late salamander. We had to move it from the path to the grass at the side, as it was too cold to move and risked being trampled upon
:An abandoned mountain shelter

:St Cyril and Methodius Monastery
