Tihia Kut - Vladaya - Zlatnite Mostove 2026

After the three days journey in the Rhodope mountains, we decided to take it easy and chose a fairly short circuit trail near home. We "designed" the trail for us a couple of years ago and since then it is gradually becoming one of our staples.

The trail starts from Tihia Kut (the Quiet place), a motel and restaurant facility on the road from Boyana to Zlatnite mostove.

It gradually goes a bit down to the outskirts of the village of Vladaya and from then on ascends along the Vladaya river to Zlatnite mostove.

This is definitely the most picturesque part of the trail, with the swift mountain river, running along the big moss covered stones through all the luscious greenery. 

Summer in Bulgaria so far is fairly moderately warm and wet, so the mountain is still quite green and full of blooming flowers. The day was actually quite chill, with temperatures in the forest in the range of 17-19C.

We passed by Zlatnite mostove, without stopping, and immediately took the alternative trail down to Kniazhevo.

Our picnic place, where we enjoyed the obligatory tortillas and cold beers, with some tasty home-made muffins and coffee for dessert. A table for two, please :)

Boyana - Tihiya Kut 2026

This week’s hike took us back to Vitosha. Starting again from Boyana, we headed in the opposite direction this time.

The Boyana - Tihiya kut trail is part of the low altitude circuit on Vitosha and surprisingly, we had never walked it before. After traversing it today, I have to say—perhaps there was a reason for that. While there’s nothing inherently "wrong" with the path, it runs quite close to the city and the road to Zlatnite Mostove. The constant hum of cars and buses nearby gave it a more urban vibe than I prefer. For now, I don't think we’ll be repeating this specific route any time soon..

The forecasts for today specifically for Boyana promised a mild and partially sunny day. The meteorologists couldn't have been more wrong. As we approached the trailhead, the sun hid behind the clouds and we entered into thick fog, that clung to the forest for the entire duration of the hike.

We spotted a couple of nuthatches working laboriously on the bark of the trees near the trail

The further we walked, the denser the fog became.

We stopped for a picnic of tortillas and hot herbal tea in a gazebo near Tihiya Kut. While we ate, two young girls on horseback passed by.

As we headed back toward Boyana and the car, the visibility dropped to just a few meters.

The temperature dipped as well, giving me the perfect chance to test the new buff I made from fabric scraps just last night. Pretty satisfied with it, kept my neck perfectly warm and toasty.

About a kilometer from the finish, the mist turned into a steady rain. So much for that "sunny" weather :) But the snowdrops and hellebores are starting to peek through the soil already, spring can't be so far, only a month or two away :)

Along the Vladaya River 2025

The day on Vitosha today was very hot and very sunny, with a lot of humidity in the air - the summer is coming! For this week's hike we chose a light circular trail to Zlatnite mostove. 

We started from a point along the low altitude circuit on Vitosha, called The Quiet Place. The first part of the trail gradually brought us at the outskirts of the village of Vladaya.

The trail from Vladaya to Zlatnite mostove was definitely the most beautiful part of the hike, as it runs along the picturesque Vladaya river.

For our picnic this time we decided only to pass through Zlatnite mostove and to stop for a snack at a picnic place along the alternative trail back to the car. Despite the lack of panorama views and high peaks, our forest hike was very pleasant and energizing.

The Quiet Place, Vladaya, 2024

Although we've been living in Sofia for decades and hiking Vitosha for years, there are still places we haven't visited and trails we haven't explored. 

Today we continued with our experiments with another circular trail on Vitosha, that we concocted ourselves, based on the map. The trail included some tracks, that we've hiked before, as well as connecting parts, that were new to us, so the entire experience was that of exploration and adventure.

We started from a place, called the Quiet Place (Tihiya kut), where we left the car and took the trail to Vladaya. We've hiked the path from Vladaya to Zlatnite mostove and back several times, but driving to the village of Vladaya is a hassle in Sofia's traffic and we had been avoiding it for years. And it turned out we could drive some 20 min from home into the mountain, leave the car at the Quiet Place and reach Vladaya in only some 30-40 minuted along a path through Vitosha.

The entire trail from the Quiet Place, through Vladaya to Zlatnite mostove was fairy-tale beautiful, green and flowery.

The trail from the village of Vladaya to Zlatnite is probably one of the most picturesque on Vitosha, as it runs along the beautiful Vladaya river. I couldn't stop taking pictures of the river all the way. The beauty of the place makes up for the altitude gain, which is not at all negligible - approx. 500 m over less than 5 km.

One of my favourite places along the path - the so-called market place. There were information boards there with very interesting data about the history of this place, related to the Ottoman rule, gold mining and forest bandits / freedom fighters :)

We had our lunch on the meadow near Zlatnite mostove and headed back to our car along the alternative trail in the direction of  Knyazevo.
