MMM'13 - First Week

As it happened, the first week of May was compacted with holidays and events, which I blogged about already, so most of my me-made choices are no news, but I'm still reporting the week, mostly for my own reference:

Day 1 - Cropped cardigan Miette by Andi Satterlund, cotton and viscose

Day 2 - Vine Yoke Cardigan by Ysolda Teague, cotton and acrylic

Day 3 - Obsession by Kim Hargreaves, cotton and bamboo

Day 4 - Quanun by Evelyn Hase, Verena 01 2011, cotton and acrylic and also
Joy by Kim Hargreaves, cotton and acrylic, worn by my daughter

Day 5 - Anais by Kim Hargreaves, cotton and viscose

Day 6 - Christina by Kim Hargreaves, cotton

Day 7 - dress, Burda '90s pattern and short cardigan by DROPS design, viscose

Happy Easter!

Today Bulgarians celebrate Easter with the traditional painted eggs and Easter bread. I'm not keen on making my own Easter bread, so ours is bought from the local bakery - they make it very delicious!

We spent the holiday in Sofia Central Park - Knyaz Boris' Garden.
Me-Made-May today - Anais by Kim Hargreaves:

The idea was to skate together with Gaby, but I've forgotten the little I knew about skating and so after a trying effort up and down the alley I quit the neck-breaking adventure and left her to skate on her own :)))

Dundee World Cup

Today my daughter and I had a girls only day (because the boys refused to join us :)) and went to the Rhythmic Gymnastics Dundee World Cup.
As seen from the second picture, we were among the first to arrive in the hall and had excellent seats.
In  the spirit of MMM13, I wore my Verena cardigan, and she - her lilac Joy:

In the morning we watched individual contestants, manipulating a ball and a hoop:

We enjoyed it so much, that we decided to abandon our plans for the afternoon and came back for the team performances: 10 clubs event and two ribbons and three balls event :

I love watching rhythmic gymnastics on TV, but nothing compares to the live experience in the hall, cheering and supporting the participants together with the other spectators!
The award ceremony - Sylvia Miteva (BG) won the second place for the individual participants and the Bulgarian team was first in the team contest:

MayDay

I've been debating with myself all day long whether to blog about my first day of Me-Made-May or not. I know I said I'll report my participation in the challenge weekly, but the commencement of the month somehow feels special and calls for noting. So, I'm noting it with this post :)
When I took part in SSS'11, I thought more about what to wear and how to arrange for somebody to take a picture of me. But looking at the beautiful and masterfully taken photos of other participants made me realize how much I enjoy well photographed garments and how important the presentation of an outfit is (to me). This made me buy a better camera with a tripod and try to improve my pictures for the blog, giving more thought to the background of my photos. As a result I often catch myself walking through the neighborhood looking for beautiful or just interesting places where I could shoot any future finished object.

So yesterday, while walking to my Pilates class, I thought of the snow covered peaks of Vitosha and how beautiful they stand against the greenery of the city. And it occurred to me that I want Vitosha to be on the first of my MMM'13 photos. I took the pictures early in the morning, while there was still little movement along the high bridge over our river. As for the choice of what to wear, the month of May is excellent for my numerous little cotton cardies and I've got many more on my knitting wish list :)

I'm finding the MMM'13 Flickr pool very inspiring, I wish I could sew at least half as expertly as these ladies!

Me-Made-May 2013

'I, Carmela of Carmela Biscuit's Spot, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '13. I endeavour to wear a self-made garment each day for the duration of May 2013'

You know, this is not my first challenge of this kind, I took part in Self-Stitched-September-11 a year and a half ago and it was a notable month for the whole family, for I asked, begged and bribed each and everyone of them to take a picture of me every day in the course of a month.

So, the challenge for the upcoming 31 days of May will be not only to wear my own clothes, but to manage to take pictures of myself wearing them every day. I'm starting practicing with the tripod and the automatic picture taking functions of my camera :)))

I also mean to take the pledge to a higher level, challenging myself to finish two new knits to be worn in May and to sew something wearable for myself. I haven't done that in ages! But I want a long gypsy skirt for the summer or maybe a yoga tunic for my Pilates classes ...

As for the report of the challenge, the plan is to take pictures every day and to share them with the Flickr group and to publish a weekly report here on the blog.

So, here we go, starting tomorrow!
