Bosnek 2025

Bosnek is one of our favourite places on Vitosha in the autumn. The trail from the village to the Live water spring is easy and extraordinary beautiful, when the leaves are colored in autumnal tones and it's pure pleasure to hike there.

However, the village is fairly far from home, the drive there is long and the traffic is usually busy, so we visit it quite rarely - the last time was four years ago. This last Sunday, however, the weather forecasts were for a cold and partially cloudy day after a couple of cold and rainy days, so we decided to postpone our annual big hike on Kladnitza and to go to Bosnek.

It was definitely the right decision, as we had a marvelous time there, despite the biting cold in the morning.

The promised Indian summer is eluding us this autumn, but the trees on the southern slopes of Vitosha are in their most gorgeous outlook.

Hike info:

As usual we took the detour to Borova polyana and had our picnic there, under this big beautiful tree. The sun shone through the clouds and it was warm enough to enjoy our usual beers and tortillas :)

The obligatory visit to the Live water spring.

And back to the village along the same trail. The sun was strong in the early afternoon and the temperatures rose, it was a very pleasant hiking experience.

Bosnek 2021

Today, amid some forecasts for rain in the afternoon, we chose an easy hike on Vitosha, along one of our often frequented favourite trails - in the vicinity of the village of Bosnek. Following yesterday's heavy rains and under today's hot sun, the air was hot and humid, but after last week's cold exposure, we were carefully dressed with long trousers and hoodies in the backpacks and so we sweated profusely and laughed at our belated wariness.

The hike was easy and pleasant, we had a picnic on the grass and enjoyed the quiet and solitude of the yellow grassy meadows.

Hike info:

Destination: Live Water Spring, Bosnek
Mountain: Vitosha
Total length: 9.5 km
Elevation gain: 190 m
Total duration (plus picnic and rests): 3 hours

Bosnek 2020

Sunday was warm and sunny and husband, Alex and I went to Bosnek - our favourite mountain trail during early autumn. We started fairly early in the morning and the grass was still wet from the morning dew, which made the hundreds of spider webs look jeweled. The trail is short, level and supereasy, but compensates with beauty and abundance of autumn fruits. There were also plenty of parasol mushrooms, but we never pick wild mushrooms, not worth the risk IMHO.

: The purple crocuses are already in bloom
:There were hundreds of webs in the grass
:This year cold weather came early, but the leaves are still predominantly green
Hike info:
Destination: Live Water Spring, Bosnek
Mountain: Vitosha
Total length: 9 km
Elevation gain: 100 m
Total duration (plus picnic and rests): 3 hours
Average difficulty: 1 / 10

:Parasol mushrooms. The meat of such young unopened parasols is supposedly tasty:

:To my surprise these parasols are actually fairly large mushrooms
:In my new Plantain t-shirt. I'm not only sewing up a storm, but I'm consciously trying to wear most of my hand-made clothes

:We had our lunch on the sunny meadow by the watch tower

:The Live Water spring, one of the attractions of the trail. The area is karst, characterized by caves and water springs all over.
