Crown Bread

I haven't posted about baking for a while, but I've been making bread a lot, and this is my current favourite recipe, I cannot recommend it enough:

Ingredients:
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar (add more and it will be sweet bread)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 egg + 1 egg white (1 yolk for glazing)

This mixture produces very smooth dough, easy to manipulate into various forms. I usually choose simpler shapes, like this crown-like form. The taste is rich and very slightly sweet, perfect for butter and cheese, or jam or honey. Today I accompanied the bread with our favourite Mediterranean cheese - white feta cheese, wrapped in aluminum foil with basil, rosemary and olive oil and baked in the oven at 230C for half an hour.
