Easter in Vrana 2025

It is almost a tradition for husband and I to visit Vrana around Easter and this year we didn't make an exception. The second day of Easter was another warm and sunny day and our walk through the park was absolutely gorgeous.

Hike info:

Date: 21 April 2025
Destination: Vrana
Total length: 8 km
Total duration : 2 hours

It is very difficult to catch all of the decorative trees in their prime - this year the magnolias had almost withered and the rhododendrons were not yet in bloom. The carobs were gorgeous, but the wisterias looked dead - I really hope that they are still alive and will be soon in bloom. However, there has been talk and we saw some evidence, that the care for the park has been neglected and the state of Vrana is troubling. That would be a shame, as the park is more than a hundred years old and has survived several regime changes and wars, hopefully the current incompetent government will not be the death of it.

Me-made items, worn on this hike:

Husband: men's boxers, red Burda blouse
I: lingerie, Burda raglan blouse, flared jeans, Metra blazer
Gaby: Burda blouse, Burda straight jeans, backpack

As Gaby lives abroad for several years already, I still sew for her with great pleasure and willingness, but I am never sure if the things I make for her are well fitting and really to her taste. It is one of my small delights to see her dressed in items I have made for her over the years - here she's wearing a blouse I made for her back in 2021 and the jeans I sewed last year.

The lily pond was empty and lily-less this year - another sign of the negligence of the park? There's been some talk lately about the state of Vrana and its current care-givers, I hope it results in some actual measures being taken, so that the beautiful grounds can be preserved and improved.

Vrana in April 2024

After the summer temperatures in March and the first half of April, in the second half the weather abruptly changed and we took out the winter jackets again. Last weekend was coldish and cloudy, and it rained all day on Sunday, but the Saturday was pretty pleasant for a walk in a park. Like Vrana.

The second half of April is the perfect time to observe most of the decorative trees in Vrana in bloom. The wisterias were in their prime.

Date: 20 April 2024
Destination: Vrana
Total length: 8 km
Total duration : 2.5 hours

The magnolias were mostly past their blooming time this year and the large magnolia tree was nothing like its glorious self from the previous year. Not only had it already lost all of its blossoms, but a major branch of it died this year and had to be cut off.

This time we decided to explore even further the park along some of its unkempt alleys.

A small bird had fallen from a nest on one of the alleys. I hope the mother found it and somehow helped it .

Only in the course of a couple of weeks the trees covered in fresh leaves and now everything is so lusciously green.

All the lilacs were also in bloom
and some of the magnolias
and the rhododendrons
and the carobs

The season was almost over for the sakuras

Vrana in November 2023

Pictures from our almost traditional autumn walk in Vrana, again on the day of another election, this time of the local governing authorities. It was a close call, but the united democratic forces won, which is a first in so many years, yey!

The day was sunny with some clouds and comfortable temperatures in the range of 14-16 C and we had a super pleasant and relaxing walk along the park alleys.
