Lulin, Dupevitza 2017

Currently we are enjoying a wonderful Indian summer and we couldn't miss our weekend hike for the world :) Even Alex volunteered to join us in this glorious weather.
This week we chose a trail we've hiked already twice before - a climb to peak Dupevitza, the summit of Lulin mountain. The pictures barely convey the beauty of the autumn forests we walked through, it was gorgeous!

Mini Skeins

Back in April I dyed two 50 g balls of Alize Superwash in a two-tone dyeing experiment. I thought of knitting two pair of socks out of them, with body of the socks in one color and toes, heel and rib in the other color and vice versa. But then I felt like knitting a pair of knee-high socks and that idea was an excuse to overdye the balls into miniskeins of 10 g each to make a pair of colorful socks.

I kept a small skein of each initial colorway and overdyed the remaining 40 g of each ball into 4 skeins, adding colors to some, fully immersing in a dyebath others, twisting and partially dyeing yet others. In other words I had a lot of fun :)

Above the skeins are divided into the two groups that were created out of each initial colorway.
And this is the order in which  I plan to knit the socks

I'll start from the knee and knit my way down until I run out of yarn. I'll try to knit two socks at a time, but if that is too cumbersome, I might just measure the yarn (I have a very precise small scale) and knit half of each skein, cut and move to the next color.

I enjoyed so much dyeing these skeins that I'm thinking I might actually do a serious project - a shawl, cardigan or sweater, using miniskeins. But let me first knit these socks :)

Bosnek 2017

During the last years we've been hiking, we established a couple of "traditional" seasonal hikes to places, which resonate and enhance the season's vibes and reveal the specific season's beauty to the fullest. Baylovo with its sunny fiеlds of crops is our early spring choice, the "raspberry" summer is on Vitosha and golden autumn - that's Bosnek. This place never disappoints us and is always the same and different every October / early November we visit it. We hike the same route from the village to a crossroad meadow and from there we try different other paths along the low hills in the vicinity of the village. The trail is abundant with autumn berries and feasting on these is also a part of the tradition.

FO: Bray Cap

And one more small project, knitted from left over yarn - Bray Cap in Wool Silk Tweed, a lovely yarn, which I knitted into a long tweed cardigan last autumn.

Pattern: Bray Cap by Jared Flood
Yarn:  Ice Yarns WoolSilk Tweed, color Copper, 80 g
Needle: 3 mm, 3.5 mm
Time to knit: 2 days

Easy-breezy hat for autumn in signature autumn color, with enough wool content to keep me warm and enough lace to air my head on a sunny October day.
